The Creative Practice Cycle (A Project-Oriented Practice System for Guitarists)
*After purchasing, you will receive an email to book your first lesson.
Turn Your Practice Into Music
A personalized 3-month practice system designed to help guitarists move from exercises to finished creative work.
Who This is For:
After working with hundreds of students over more than 15 years of teaching, I began noticing the same patterns over and over again: people aren’t lacking information, they’re lacking application.
I have also designed this program for the guitarist who feels stuck in their progress and trapped in familiar thought cycles:
“I practice for hours but I can’t tell if I’m improving or not.”
“Every time I sit down with a practice goal, I somehow always end up mindlessly noodling.”
“I know theory and work on technique but how do I make actual music from this?”
“There is so much advice online that I no longer know what to work on.”
“If I had a structure I was confident in, there would be no problem sticking with it.”
How the Creative Practice Cycle Works
Step 1 - Assessment & Goal Setting
We start with a 90-minute session to analyze your current playing level, identify what has been slowing your progress, and design your final creative project.
Step 2 - Structured Practice
You’ll then receive your personalized 3-month plan with weekly schedules and targeted exercises designed to support your project.
Step 3 - Guided Refinement
During your practice period, you’ll have two check-in sessions to refine the plan, address technical challenges, and make sure everything is still on track.
Step 4 - Creative Project Completion
After completing your creative project, we will have one final session to reflect on what you have accomplished and discuss the direction for your next stage of development.
Why This Works
Most guitar instruction focuses on information:
More exercises.
More theory.
More techniques.
The Creative Practice Cycle instead focuses on integration: A clear practice structure rooted in a personalized creative project.
This project is directly related to what you want to improve and therefore provides specific and measurable goals. This allow us to clearly track your development while working toward a defined end result.
Instead of endlessly collecting exercises from YouTube videos and blogs, you’ll be working toward a finished creative outcome. After three months, the cycle is complete and you can move on to a new stage of development. No half-finished courses, lingering lessons you’ve paid for, or aimless practice.
Creative Project
People practice more when they are building something. The specifics of what you build will depend on your goals but here are just a few examples of what is possible:
Compose a short-to-medium length piece using the techniques you’ve been developing
Arrange and record a full song cover
Create several lead-sheet style pieces you could present at a jam session
Write a solo-guitar étude
Record an improvised solo over a custom-made backing track
There are many more examples, but the goal is that by the end you will have completed something tangible, related to your goals, and that represents everything you’ve accomplished.
Why 3 months is the sweet spot
There is a reason why a year is often divided up into quarters:
Enough time to make meaningful progress
Short enough to prevent burnout or loss of interest
Clear start and end dates within a foreseeable future
A repeatable cycle that you can align with school semesters or business quarters
What’s Included
Your Practice System
A personalized 3-month practice timeline based on your goals and ability level
A creative project designed to apply what you’ve been practicing
Monthly overviews and weekly practice schedules so you always know what to practice
Clearly described exercises with TAB, Guitar Pro files and audio files when needed
Guided Sessions
90-minute initial session to assess your playing and set clear goals
Two 60-minute sessions to check in on progress and refine details of the plan
Final 30-minute session to review progress and plan next steps in your development
Interested but want to learn more?
If you would like to learn more you can book a 30-minute consultation here.
In it we’ll talk about your goals and if this structure would be the right fit for you. There is no pressure to sign up afterwards and at the very least, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of where you want your playing to go.
So come say hello! I’d love to hear about your goals and your music.
